43m KCB boost for National Rally Championships

Kenya Commercial Bank has unveiled its sponsorship for the 2014 Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) valued at Ksh. 43.5million.

The money will go towards the organization, marketing and other costs associated with running the eight legs of the national series till the end of the 2014 season.

KCB Group CEO, Joshua Oigara said: "KCB is very proud to renew its sponsorship for the KNRC for yet another year.Over the last 11 years, KCB has played a critical role in nurturing, developing and supporting motorsports partnership with Kenya Motorsports Federation."

 Oigara was excited by the fact that the investment will enable the organizers to host eight rallies starting this Saturday with KCB Malindi Rally 2014. The event will be organised by Mombasa Motor Club.

This will be the first time in 25 years that a rally is taking place in Malindi. Malindi has previously staged a number of Clubman rallies for MMC as well as national events.

The KCB KNRC 2014 comprises of events such as the world-famous KCB Safari rally which is also a round of the FIA African rally Championship (ARC), the Kisumu Rally, Nakuru Rally among others.

Malindi rally raves off on Saturday

The hills around Malindi and its environs will reverberate with the roar of turbo charged machines when the first round of the KNRC gets underway on Saturday.

Reconnaissance for the event is programmed for Thursday and Friday starting from 6am to 5pm on both days, according to Kenya Motor Sport Federation Chairman Roy McKenzie.

The rally will be flagged-off outside the KCB branch in Malindi on saturday.

The ceremonial finish will be at the Ocean Beach Hotel from 3pm onwards.

The longest stage will be a 25km run in a forest region whilst the shortest will be a 2km spectator stage within town.

The total distance to be covered by crews will be 350km of which 190km is competitive mileage.

 Among top drivers expected to shine in Malindi are reigning Champion Baldev Chager, multiple Safari Rally winner Carl "Flash" Tundo, three time former KNRC Champion Azar Anwar and Ian Duncan.
