4m Airtel top up for Impala floodlit

It is all systems go for the annual Impala Rugby Floodlit after Airtel Kenya pumped in Ksh. 4million for Octobers tournament.

The competitive event will bring together eight invited club sides, eight school teams as well as eight university teams from all over the country.

The Airtel Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament will be played in the weekends of October 6th, 13 and 20th. Chairman of the Impala Rugby Football Club Gangla Oduor said the tournament will kick off on Saturday 6 October with a secondary schools competition that has attracted a total of eight schools led by Rugby powerhouses Mangu, Nairobi School, Alliance and Lenana High Schools.

Defending champions Mean Machine will lead the way in the clubs. Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Mwangi Muthee was pleased with the boost.

“Impala is one of the oldest clubs in Kenya and seeing the tournament grow stronger each day to attract major sponsorship is testament to the fact that rugby in Kenya is growing.” said Muthee.

With the 7s team upbeat after an impressive showing at last weekend’s Safari Sevens Muthee says the Union is looking to an equally improved performance from the 15s squad.

The winners of the clubs category in this tournament will bag Ksh. 200,000 in Prize money.

The Impala Rugby floodlit tournament is the most Meanwhile the third edition of the Homeboyz One Night Stand Rugby Tournament takes place this coming Saturday September 29 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
