• A historic 1-2-3 sweep for Kenya in the women's marathon.

Kenya's Edna Kiplagat led a historic clean sweep of medals in the women's marathon,the first final of the World Athletics Championships run in humid conditions in Daegu, South Korea.

Kiplagat overcame a nasty fall in the last seven kilometres to win the race in 2:28.43 with compatriot Prisca Jeptoo finishing 00.17 seconds behind in 2:29.00 and Sharon Cherop in 2:29.14 her season best.

It was the first sweep for Kenya in the marathon but the third in history of the championships that ensured that Kenya also won the team cup for the first time ever.
