• AK holds council meeting to deliberate on the Body's constitution

Athletics Kenya, AK will on Tuesday unveil the draft of the body’s new constitution to all its stakeholders when the athletics body during the council meeting on Tuesday at Riadha House.

AK chairman, Isaiah Kiplagat welcomed all the coaches, trainers, board members and the said the meeting whose main agenda will be the discussion and ammending the constitution before the final draft is presented by the end of the year.

“We want everybody to have a look of the draft constitution which we promised to deliver by the end f the years before we submit the final list,” Kiplagat said.

AK on Monday launched the Mazingira run which kicks off this weekend in six of the nine regions. Kerugoya, Meru, Kabsabet, Funyula, Kisii and Garissa will host the first edition of the regional races which will winner from each region which also includes Mombasa, Narok and Machakos pocket Ksh. 20,000.The latter regions will host the race on October 29.      

National Environmental Authority, NEMA- the main organizers of the race plans to plant over 4,500 trees in recognition of the fallen Nobel laureate, Wangari Maathai on the race day. Every region will plant at least 500 trees according to NEMA acting Director General, Ayub  Macharia.

“We will be planting as many seedlings as possible, at least 500 per region in recognition of Maathai who had high regards for the environment."

The first edition of the Mazingira run whose aim is to educate the public on the importance of conserving the environment through sports was held on May 2011.

The organizers also plans to award this year’s top  performing sports persons in the newly introduced, Mazingira award scheme which will take place in June next year.
