• Aliwa out of the Kenya men’s team

Elisha Aliwa is out of the Kenya men’s volleyball team for the 2011 All Africa Games Zone Five Qualifiers.

Team manager Kipkemei Sirma who also doubles up as KVF vice chairman, said that Daniel Kimei of General Service Unit takes the position of Aliwa.

He said that Aliwa will not be available for the assignment since he will be on a peace keeping mission in Sudan during the duration of the event.

The provisional squad has two professionals in its ranks namely Philip Maiyo who is based in Bulgaria and James Ondera who plays in Japan.

“We expect Maiyo and Ondera to share with the rest of the team the experience they have gained abroad and we seek to match achievements of our women in the continent,” he said.

Sirma said the Sammy Kirongo headed technical bench boost of vast experience in international volleyball and has the potential of taking Kenyan volleyball to the next level.

Kenya men and women’s team are preparing for Zone Five All Africa Games Qualifiers which will be held at a yet to be decided venue next month.

Kenya Volleyball Federation announced that the teams would start training in Nairobi on February 8.

David Lung’aho, one of the most successful coaches in the country, will handle the women’s team.

Both teams were selected during the national league play-off in Mombasa last November.

The All African Games will be held in Maputo, Mozambique in September.
