Kenya’s top amateur golfer, Stefan Andersen made the top ten in the 2011 Limpopo Open championships, held at Polokwane Golf Club with a score of level par (216) for the 54-hole tournament.
The event was won by South Africa’s number one, Brandon Stone in a play off with C J du Plessis on 5-under par.
Du Plessis was a member of the South African team that participated in Mombasa during Zone VI in April this year.
This is Andersen’s best strokeplay performance in a South African ranked event.
In May, he reached the semi-finals of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Open, losing to the eventual winner, Michael Hollick. A total of 168 entered the Limpopo Open, with 99 players having to pre-qualify for 63 slots.
The 36 hole cut was 151 (7-over) and 69 players played the last round. A World Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, Andersen will move from his current position of 756 at the next WAGR review this Wednesday (13 July).
Kenya has a total of five World Ranked players, following the Kenya Amateur championships held in Limuru in June - James Karanja (3945); Tony Omuli (4807); William Odera (5279) Nelson Simwa (5279).
