May 11, 2012-

Heavy rains which have pounded nairobi for the past two weeks has prompted the organizers of the Bamburi Rugby Super Series to shift matches from the Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground to the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Jamhuri Show ground this weekend.

There are matches in Nairobi, Kampala and Mumias. Organizers explained that the switch has been necessitated by the deterioration of the playing surface at the RFUEA ground.

In the meantime, Steve Ogwete of Dimension Data Rwenzori and Bramwell Shikanda of Mumias Sugar Buffaloes are tied at the top of the points scorers’ charts after the opening round of matches in the 10th edition of the Bamburi Rugby Super Series.

The duo traded a hat trick of tries, accumulating 15 points each when their sides faced off in Kampala, Rwenzori running off with the 43-31 result. UAP Rhinos' Eden Agero and another Buffaloes player George Oduor, are joint second on 11 points, having kicked four conversions and a penalty each.

Brian Nyikuli (UAP Rhinos) and Daniel Sikuta (Lions) are joint third on the points scorers list with 10 points, having landed two tries each in their respective weekend outings.

Incidentally, their sides were the highest scoring teams this past weekend, the UAP Rhinos beat KCB Victoria 46-9 while the Lions were 45-9 winners over the Coastal Bulls.

KCB Victoria's 18 year old Philip Wokorach, younger brother of Ugandan international Michael Wokorach is placed fourth on the points scorers’ chart with 9 points, having slotted home three penalties during his side's loss to the UAP Rhinos. A total of 26 tries, 19 conversions, 7 penalty goals and 2 drop goals were recorded this past weekend.
