After barely retaining the Elgon Cup by marginally beating Uganda and losing the Tri Nation Victoria Cup to Zimbabwe, Kenya is faced with a much bigger challenge of staying in the top tier Africa Rugby Confederation (CAR) Cup when they host Morocco, Namibia and Tunisia November 6-12.

Namibia, fresh from the World Cup could field a development side while Morocco and Tunisia who have some of their players in top French Clubs will be at full strength with Kenya looking to use the home advantage when they play the opening match on the final day of the Safaricom Safari seven at Nyayo national stadium on November 6.

“As the host for this year’s Confederation Cup, we will ensure that we introduce the tournament in style with the first match played under floodlight immediately after the finals of the Safari Sevens.

This will also send a strong signal to the government that we really need our own stadium at the KRU grounds to host such tournaments in future,” said Kenya Rugby Union Chairman, Mwangi Muthee.

The draw for the tournament will be released soon according to KRU Secretary General, Paul Nyamudi who clarified that the rest of the CAR ties, will be played at the traditional KRFU grounds.

Meanwhile, this years’ Safaricom Safari Sevens continues to attract more corporate support with the Wrigley Company and the Intercontinental Hotel stepping in to sponsor Kenya's premier rugby event.

The Intercontinental hotel which will also provide accommodation to all the 16 participating teams at a subsidised rate( 50% discount) amounting to about Ksh.1.3 M with Wrigley injecting KSh. 1million. The tournament runs from November 4-6 at the Nyayo national stadium.
