The second day of the on-going Kenya Volleyball league play-off was equally thrilling as General Service Unit,GSU edged off Forest Rangers in a five set thriller as defending champions Kenya Prisons overcame Ulinzi at the Nyayo national stadium outdoor court.

The match between GSU and Forest Rangers was full of fireworks as the Forces team came from a set down to win the decider3-2(20-25, 25-20,25-20, 25-27 and 17-15) to the dismay of Rangers supporters.

GSU recovered from their 20-25 loss in the first set to take the second and third sets 25-20, 25-20 lost the fourth set 25-27 recovered to win the deciding set by a two point margin.

The forest guards had started off the fifth set on a high note, taking the lead but the police wing caught up with them to tie the set 7-7.

Cheered on by their fans, the anti riot division did not disappoint, taking a 8-7 lead, but Rangers piled the pressure as the two teams tied neck to neck from 9-9 to 15-15 only for GSU scoring two quick points to win the tie.

Reigning champions Kenya Prisons registered a 3-0(25-17, 25-15, 25-18) win over Ulinzi in their first match to keep alive their title defence In the women’s category, Kenya Prison recorded their second win over Kenya Commercial Bank.

Prison’s head coach, David Lung’aho fielded his best teams including Lydia Maiyo barely recovered from an injury she sustained at the World Cup in Japan in the third set. The women’s title will be decided Sunday when Kenya Pipeline who also won their second match against Ulinzi 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-16) welcomes Prison at 3.00 pm.

GSU will square it out with Ulinzi at 9.00 am before Forest Rangers takes on Prisons in the Men’s league. The competition which was to wrap up Sunday will now conclude next weekend after two matches were called off on Friday.

Full fixtures Sunday Men’s: General Service Unit (GSU) vs Ulinzi (9.00 am), Forest Rangers vs Kenya Prison (11.00 am). Women’s Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) vs Ulinzi (1.00 pm) and Kenya Pipeline vs Kenya Prison (3.00pm.
