• Good start for Kenya in Botswana Championships

The Kenyan swimming team picked 15 medals on Thursday’s second day of  the Confederation of African Federation(CANA) Zone Three and Four-championships in Botswana.

Danielle Awori led Kenya’s Gold medal haul with four in the 50m breaststroke (38.19),200m breaststroke (2:59.57), 50m backstroke (34.51) and in the 200m freestyle (2:23.51) in the event that ends on Saturday.

Kanyali Ilako raced to gold in the 50m Butterfly in 34.19.

Anita Field’s time of 34.90 earned her silver in the 50m backstroke (34.90)with Batian Thorpe 200m freestyle (2:28.36)and Samuel Ndonga 50m Butterly (32.09) also finishing second in their respective events. The Kenyan quartet also picked up two silver medals in the boys 400m freestyle.

It was bronze medals for Graham Walker in the 100m backstroke 1:09.37,Samuel Ndonga in the 200m breaststroke (3:11.72), and Anita Field in the 50m Butterfly (33.21).Kenya won two bronze medals in boys and girls 14 years and under 200 medley relay.

Kenya who won overall title in last years event held in Nairobi  are represented by 25 swimmers in the gala.

Kenya’s female team won the overall trophy in 2010 while the male team finished second behind Zimbabwe.

13 African countries are competing at the regional championships.
