Gor Mahia registered a rare win in the Kenyan Premier League by hitting bottom side Nairobi City Stadium 2-1 at City Stadium.

Gor got off on blistering pace going two up just after the half hour mark. George Midenyo opened the scoring sheet in the 26th minute with a powerful that Ronnie Kagunzi in goal for City Stars little chance.

Six minutes later, the former Gor custodian was at fault to failing to hold on to Midenyo shot which was easily tapped in by Cameroonian import Baldwin Ngwa to double the lead for K’Ogalo. After the break, City Stars dictated pace and were duly rewarded when, Ugandan striker, Dan Serunkuma, came off the bench to reduce the deficit for the Kawangware side after robbing Anthony Akumu the ball.

Gor doggedly defended their slim lead during a frantic finish to the match as City Star went all out in search of an equalizer. Gor coach Zdravko Logarusic was pleased with the result but bemoaned his blunt strike force.

“I am happy we have won today, but my strikers are still not up to scratch. We need to be more ruthless upfront of goal and convert our chances”, he said.

This was Gor’s third win in twelve outings while City Star’s winless streak stretched to four matches. The win provisionally lifts Gor to tenth on the log with 13 points, their highest placing in almost eleven weeks.

City Stars remain rooted to the bottom of the table with 8 points.

Thika United 1 Muhoroni Youth 0

At Thika Municipal Stadium, Kepha Aswani scored the lone goal to guarantee all three points for the high-riding Thika United. Aswani, who was named in the national team squad on Friday, scored the all-important goal in the 48th minute after being set up by Moses Arita.

This was the first match for the Muhoroni side without Alfred Imonje who walked out on the team after falling out with the club officials.

Thika moves to fourth, level on 20 points with fifth-placed Sofapaka, who meet Tusker in a top of the table clash on Monday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Ulinzi Star 2 Sony Sugar 1

At Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium, Evans Amuoka struck twice to give Ulinzi Stars a 2-1 win over the visiting Sony Sugar. After a barren first half, Amuoka, put the soldiers ahead in the 46th minute and doubled the lead six minutes later.

However, Sony pulled one back courtesy of Stephen Ocholla’s own goal in the 74th minute.
