• Hillcrest and Moi Nairobi Girls Share the Spoils

The two front runners in the Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association Girl’s hockey league, Hillcrest Secondary and Moi Nairobi Girls shared the spoils as the competition neared a climax. In a top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday, the match ended one-all.

Elleni Stephanou scored for Hillcrest Secondary and Meriene Sirma replied for Moi Nairobi Girls.

The draw saw Moi Nairobi Girls maintain the top spot with 14 points and Hillcrest who have played four matches remain at the second spot. In Pool B, the rivalry between Mt. Laverna and Pangani continued.

Both were in action and won in contrasting styles. Sally Oburu scored a hattrick and steered ‘Pango’ to a 5-0 win over St. George’s. Tanya Buyu and Melody Amanda added one goal each. Mt Laverna were 4-1 winners over Buru Buru Girls. Charity Kirui, their prolific goal scorer and Naomi Wachuka struck a brace.

Linet Mutheu scored a consolation goal for Buru Buru Girls. In Pool B, it is a close battle between current leaders Mt. Laverna, Pangani and Kenya High. Mt. Laverna and Pangani have been exchanging the podium spot and have 17 and 16 points respectively.

Pangani have lost one match and drawn one which is the only difference with Mt Laverna who are unbeaten but have two draws. St. George’s who have had a strong representation are struggling after parting ways with coach Omae Olubai.

Mt. Laverna’s dominance is also reflected in the top scorer’s list where they have three players; Naomi Wachuka (8 goals), Charity Kirui (7) and Winnie Bahati (6). Pangani’s Tanya Buyu has scored six goals. Moi Nairobi Girls rule the roost in Pool A where they have garnered 14 poins from their six outings and are unbeaten.

Close on their heels is Hillcrest Secondary who could climb to the top should they win their next two matches. they have played only four matches and are also unbeaten. They have 8 points same as Precious Blood.

New entrants Rusinga have a creditable performance and have got six points from five matches.
