Oct 17, 2011-

The new Kenya Sevens team which has been assembled by coach Mitch Ocholla and Charles Cardovillis his assistant is a mix of old and new. There will be some shock inclusions, when the team is finally named.

When the new Kenya Rugby Union officials took office, one of their main agenda was a shake up in the Kenya Sevens team. There was a feeling that for quite some time, under Benjamin Ayimba, there were not enough new blood and the average age of the team was much higher.

The new technical bench was given a ‘free hand’ to select the players but keep in mind that the average age should be lowered. Immediately on appointment, there was already a sign towards dropping some of the ‘experienced’ players because the coaches felt they were a liability.

In their search for a new generation of players, Ocholla and Cardovillis realised that there was a need for continuity and have therefore includes some of the players from the Ayimba squad.

Players at the camp have been sworn to a code of silence but  sportsnewsarena.com  has pieced bits of information from outside the camp and come out with a likely provisional list.

According to our source, the players have been quizzed whether there is a mole from the camp leaking out information.

One thing though, the players have not been contracted which is causing much anxiety. Anyway, some of the players retained are Collins Injera, Sidney Ashioya, Leon Adongo, Brian Nyikuli, Andrew Amonde, Oscar Ouma, Horace Otieno and Biko Adema. Charles Kanyi and Naphtally Bondo who have been on and off the team have been included. From the academy comes William Ambaka, Felix Ayange, Dennis Ombachi, Dennis Muhanji, Patrice Agunda and Ken Moseti.

The new players are Tony Onyango, Edwin Makori, Fabian Olando, Philip Wamae, Michael Wanjala and Michael Agevi, the younger brother to Injera and outgoing captain Humphrey Kayange.

With a code of silence,  sportsnewsarena.com can only predict that the players who will take to the pitch for Safari Sevens will definitely play in the opening three tournaments of the International Rugby Board Sevens Series which kicks off in Gold Coast, Australia at the end of November.
