Caleb Odoyo gave Kenya its first win in the Wheelchair World Tennis qualifying tournament which began Tuesday at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, KSMS. 

Odoyo, ranked number two in Kenya played a thrilling match to edge out Egyptian Faraub Ahmed 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Caleb who was showcasing his skills in a competition for the first time beat the more experienced Egyptian through a very co-ordinated game plan.

He proved to be the fitter of the two and was able to get to the balls in two bounces.

Players from seven countries-Kenya, Morocco, Gambia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and South Africa  including hosts Kenya are competing in the event which ends on March 2.

Six qualification slots are up for grabs plus a Wild Card for the host of the World Group.

The qualifiers from this event will represent Africa in the main World Team Cup Championships to be held in South Korea in May 2012.

The World Team Cup is the official ITF wheelchair team event and is sponsored by BNP Paribas and Kenya Lawn Tennis Association, KLTA.
