• Kenyan swimmers wrap up low key World event

Kenyan swimmers wrapped up their low-keyed performance at the FINA world-swimming championships on Saturday with the favourites Jason and David Dunford failing to make the finals of the 1oom freestyle.

David finished seventh in the first qualifier in 47.23, which ranked him 14th overall.

Jason was the last to tap the wall in the first semi final 47.49 the fastest of the two semis. Brazil’s Cesar Cielho won the semi in a championship record time of 46.01 to qualify top of the finals.

Jason, the 50m Butterfly Commonwealth Games Champion was the only Kenyan of the 11 member team to make the final of his respective event at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex.

Veteran Kenyan swimmer Ramadhan Vyombo finished second in his 50m breast stroke in 31.13 qualifier but his heat was the slowest of the day which was about five seconds behind South African Cameron Van Der Burgh who qualified first in 26.14.
