Mombasa, first stop for SuperSport’s manhunt for Bonga Boli

SuperSport’s search for a first Kiswahili commentator dubbed Bonga Boli gets underway this weekend in Mombasa.

It’s the first competition of its kind ever in the country and hundreds of aspirant commentators from the coastal region will line up at the the Wild Waters from April 13 - 15 hoping to impress a panel of judges in order to move on in the competition.

The contestants will get a minute in the mobile recording booth where they will commentate on a pre-recorded past Kenya Premier League (KPL) match.

Mombasa is the first stop in the Bonga Boli road show which will then roll on to Kisumu at the Aga Khan Hall from April 20 -22 with the last stop at the nation’s capital from April 26 – 29 at the Prestige Mall.

The judges, which comprise of John Nene, one of the pioneers of digital journalism in the country, Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, the Harambee Stars’ most successful coach, Mohammad Juma Njuguna, one of the country’s oldest commentator and Anne Ngugi, will be selecting a total of 12 contestants across the three audition venues.

The chosen dozen, will then move on to the SuperSport studio where they will be trained on the art of commentating before facing off on the Bonga Boli show for the ultimate prize through a number of commentary challenges.

The winner will put their newly learned art to use on SuperSport’s live broadcast of Kenya Premier League matches.
