The Uganda Olympic Committee,UOC president Rogers Ddungu has been suspended indefinitely for gross abuse of office and failure to work with the Board members.

Ddungu was also the chef de mission of the games which implies that he has been stripped off the role and and IOC has consequently been informed of the decision.

An executive meeting that took place at the UOC headquarters in Lugogo Tuesday evening took a unanimous decision to take the action in order to save the sport.

Ddungu was invited to the meeting but he never turned up while the Assistant General Secretary Oneg P’Minga walked out of office when the executive members entered the boardroom.

“We had to take the action for the good of the sport. We do not want to sink but to keep afloat but he has refused to take any ideas. He is fighting personal wars while using funds from the committee and we cannot accept it,” explained Denis Galabuzi, the vice president technical of the Uganda Olympic Committee.

The executive also accused Ddungu of filling up the general team Uganda posts' with lecturers and students of Kyambogo University.

The indefinite suspension follows Ddungu’s naming a tribunal committee when the executive committee harguing against the tribunal that would cost the committee Ush.30m(USD 12 000), yet they were looking for funds for the Olympic teams to train and prepare for the Olympic Games.

He is also accused of causing financial losses by not following the proper UOC expenditure guidelines.

The UOC constitution gives William Blick the powers to take over as acting president until an extra ordinary assembly is called to fill the post.

Already 13 out of the 19 Olympic Clubs had signed a petition that calls for a vote of no confidence against Ddungu.
