Victor Wanyama’s Scottish Celtic were crowned Champions at Rugby Park with an outstanding 6-0 victory against Kilmarnock, sending them 21 points clear at the top of the SPL and securing the first title triumph under Neil Lennon.
Wanyama who has had a sterling debut season at the Hampden based team becomes the first Kenyan to win a Scottish championship which is also his first major trophy of his football career.
The 20-year old joined the Glasgow based team in July 2011 from Belgium’s Beerschot AC scoring four goals, where he dons the number 67 jersey the first Celtic player to wear this number.
Back to Saturday’s crowing performance, the emphatic victory was completed by a stylish performance in front of 14,000 travelling Celtic supporters, thanks to two goals from Charlie Mulgrew and a double from Gary Hooper along with strikes from Glenn Loovens and Joe Ledley.
With the Celtic fans filling three of the four stands at Rugby Park, and the team only needing a point to secure the title, the afternoon promised so much for the Bhoys. And it wasn’t long before the celebrations got underway.
The full-time whistle then followed, sparking scenes of jubilation as the three points moved Celtic onto 81 points, securing the league title.
The instrumental Harambee Stars midfielder blessed with bursts of pace has been a regular feature in Celtics starting XI, missed Saturday’s match on suspension.
His elder brother Mac Donald Mariga who won the Italian Serie A in 201 with Inter Milan who also went on to win the Super Cup and the champions league in his debut season.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Owino double helped Ulinzi overcome Chemilil 2-1 in their Kenya Premier League match at Afraha Stadium, Saturday.
The Visitors were first to score through Wycliffe Odhiambo, as they looked keen to close in on league leaders AFC Leopards but Owino soon cancelled out the goal. The winner came deep into the second half as Ulinzi bounce back from two consecutive losses.
Mathare United also beat Muhoroni 2-1 while Sofapaka easily saw off City Stars 2-0.
Karuturi edged out Western Stima 1-0.
