Agunda stars for Quins at J.P. Morgan Sevens

Patrice Agunda from Kenya Harlequins scored three tries at Allianz Park as Harlequins qualified for the final of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s to be played at the Recreation Ground in Bath next Friday.

The Kenya Sevens player scored a try as Harlequins beat London Wasps 26-19.

Charlie Walker scored twice and Jack Clifford crossed the line once for Quons. London Wasps replied with a try each by Tom Varndell, Gus Jones and Guy Thompson.

In the match against London Irish which Harlequins won 42-19, Agunda and Ollie Lindsay Hague scored two tries each. Other try scorers for Quins were Harry Sloan and Walker while Gerard Ellis, David Trehame and Tom Fowlie replied for London Irish.

Quins also beat Saracens 24-21 to finish unbeaten. David Ward, the Harlequins captain told rugby website that it was important to start well and attributed their win to consistency.

“It is going to be tough in Bath. There are six teams and you have seen from the previous two rounds that there are really good 7s players and teams. We are certainly going to win it and whether we do or not will depend on the momentum like we got here. If we get that early we can definitely go on and win and hopefully we will.”

Other teams which have qualified for the final at the Recreation Ground in Bath on Friday next week are Saracens, Worcester Warriors, Newcastle Falcons, Gloucester Rugby and Leicester Tigers. Worcester Warriors won the first round by beating Bath Rugby and Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester Rugby. Newcastle Falcons beat Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks to qualify from the second round.

They will be joined by Leicester Tigers in the final. Speaking to, Agunda said the preparations had gone well and it was a great honor to play for the ‘parent’ club. “All the senior players are supportive and l will do my best,” he said on the eve of the competition.
