Kenyan Striker George Odhiambo ‘Blackberry’ is set to complete his transfer from local side Gor Mahia FC to Danish club, Randers for an undisclosed fee this week.

The Kenya Premier League player of the year leaves on Tuesday for Copenhagen where he will seal the deal with Danish side, which is currently lying third from bottom.

Speaking to the media in Nairobi, Odhiambo, 18, who played his first game for Gor in February 2009 in a continental fixture against Rwandese club APR, said he was looking forward to playing for a top European club.

“As I leave Gor Mahia for Randers FC my main aim remains to play for Arsenal one day .I am going to take things step by step to ensure that I achieve that goal.”

Odhiambo was instrumental in Gor’s second place finish in the KPL last season and will be one of only three African players playing for the Danish club. There are Senegalese and one Ghanaian currently in the club, which is largely dominated by home-based players.

His manager Arnold Kanyang’onda said they opted for Denmark as it offered the teenager a better chance of joining another the top European clubs.

“Scandinavian countries are very accommodating for African players and they are the best route to big European countries. We had options in Asia and South Africa where there is more money but we settled for Denmark.”

The Kenyan international who is expected to seal the deal in Copenhagen before the end of the week, hailed Gor’s former coach James Siang’a for nurturing his club career.

“To me he is the best coach because he had confidence in me gave me chance to play in some of the clubs key matches in favour of other established players in the team.”

Blackberry could debut on March 6,when Randers resume play in the Superliga after a three months winter break.

Another Gor youngster Midfielder Antony Akumu held trials with the team last November.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia Secretary General Nick Arum said they are currently recruiting players ahead of the start of the new season in February to bolster the squad.
