Champions off to a flying start

Moi Nairobi Girls got off to a flying start by winning all their three matches as the Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports association girl's league started.

The champions started with a 5-0 win over St. Georges' before beating Kenya High 3-0. They completed the day with 13 goals by drubbing Starehe Girls 5-0 in their last Pool A match.

Ngara had a draw and three wins while Parklands Arya topped Pool C with nine points.

After the opening day, it is Moi Narobi Girs, Ngara and Parklands Arya leading the charge ahead of the next round on Saturday at Moi Nairobi Girls from 9 a.m.

In their first match, Sarah Achungo scored two goals as Moi Nairobi Girls beat St. Georges' 5-0. Other goal scorers were Faith Wangari, Jereiah Nyanchama and Merab Anyango.

They were 3-0 winners over Kenya High with Nyanchama scoring twice and Hannah Wasidwa once. Nyanchama scored a hattrick against Starehe Girls with Achungo and Anyango adding one goal each.

While Moi Nairobi Girls scored 13 goals on the opening day, Parklands Arya, one of the early contenders answered with 11. They opened with a 6-0 win over Loreto Convent, Msongari.

In this match, Marianah Njeri scored four goals while Aziza Hassan and Fatuma Omar added one each. In the match against former champions Pangani, Omar scored three goals and Grace Mugure one for a 4-0 win. Omar scored the lone goal against Buruburu.

Ngara drew their opening match against Kianda and won the next three. Robai Nafula scored the only goal against Precious Blood and Mitchell Wambui struck two against State House Girls.

In their last match, Valentine Waweru's goal against Mt. Laverna was enough to earn all the three points.

Mt. Laverna's only win was against Precious Blood where Irene Kagwiria scored two goals and Maryann Kimani once.
