Kenya Police and Butali Sugar Warriors cemented the lead at the top of the Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier League after winning their matches on Saturday and Sunday at the City Park Stadium.

On Saturday, Butali Sugar Warriors beat a stubborn Sikh Union, Nairobi 3-1. They followed this with an identical win over Chase Salors on Sunday.

The former champions who are gunning for the second spot narrowed the gap to one point against Green Sharks who are second and face Chase Sailors on Wednesday at the same venue.

On Saturday, Butali Sugar came up against familiar faces whom they had played with. Siblings, Frank Wanangwe (Butali) and Davis Wanangwe (Sikh Union, Nairobi) were on opposite ends.

Also, Zack Aura and Said Okwemba came up against their former team-mates Wilson Otieno and Inderjit Matharu.

Frank Wanangwe scored the first goal for Butali Sugar Warriors in the 15th minute before Harvir Ghautaurae replied for Sikh Union, Nairobi in the 24th minute.

In the second half two quick goals by Maxwell Fuchaka and Zack Aura in the 52nd minute saw the sugar millers win 3-1.

On Sunday, they led 3-0 at halftime before beating Chase Sailors by the same margin. Emmanuel Simiyu scored two goals within a space of four minutes in the first period.

The first goal was in the seventh minute and the second in the 11th. Just before the beak, Said Okwemba scored the third goal in the 29th minute for a tall of two at the weekend.

Telkom Orange survived a late rally

In the women's Premier League, Telkom Orange survived a late rally by Strathmore University before winning 3-2.

The champions raced to a 3-0 lead at halftime and eased their foot off the gas pedal to allow the students score two unanswered goals in the second half.

Jackline Mwangi scored the first goal for Telkom Orange in the seventh minute of the first period.

Two quick goalls by Barbara Simiyu in the 26th minute saw Telkom Orange comfortably lead 3-0.

The tide changed in the second period when Denise Bila scored a goal for Strathmore University in the 44th minute and Babra Atigu added the second in the 52nd minute for a frantic finish.

Sliders rallied from 1-2 down to share the spoils with Vikings in another women's Premier League match on Sunday.

In the third period, Avrelia Saisi broke the deadlock by scoring a goal in the 42nd minute. Ten minutes later Christine Mmbone replied for Sliders to share the spoils.
