Rama Salim’s headed goal from Kevin Omondi’s cross in the 11th minute was enough for Gor to overcome a stubborn Chemelil Sugar at the Nairobi City Stadium.

The former Congo United midfielder got to the end of Kevin Omondi’s delicate to the match winning strike that came very early in the game.

The visitors started off brightly and should have gone ahead in the 3rd minute, with former Gor midfielder Hadji Mwachoki rattled the woodwork with a fierce drive.

Mwachoki, who tormented his former employers all evening, came close again in the 26th minute but goalkeeper Fredrick Onyango did well to avert the danger for Gor.

With the match going into the break in Gor’s favour, Chemelil came back a rejuvenated side with a couple of decent chances. Georson Likono, who was introduced after the break, joined forces with Mwachoki in terrorizing the Gor defence.

He almost found the net in the 85th minute when he broke free and chipped the advancing Onyango only for Donald Mosoti to race back and clear the ball from the goal-line.

In the closing exchanges, John Kipalgat was guilty of wasting a glorious chance for Gor on a one on one situation with the Chemelil goalkeeper.

This was Gor’s second straight win and the fourth since the beginning of the season. Last weekend, Zdravko Logarusdic’s men beat Nairobi City Stars 2-1 at the same venue.

In Kakamega, Western Stima disarmed Ulinzi Stars 1-0 courtesy of Alloyce Mangi’s 80th minute strike from Fred Shimoyo’s cross. Thika United secured victory of a similar scoreline away at Oserian.

Clifftone Miheso netted the solitary goal in the 70th minute after Francis Kahata and Moses Arita did all the donkey work. Hosts Sony Sugar and Karuturi Sports settled for a barren draw at Gusii Stadium in Kisii.
