Gor Mahia goalkeeper and Captain Fredrick Onyango will be out of the squad that will face Esperance in Tunis for the return leg of their Africa Champions League match on Sunday.

Onyango suffered a shoulder injury two weeks ago in their -0 win against Mathare United in a premier league match in Machakos.

The Gor captain was allowed to play in last weekend’s 3-2 loss to the Tunisian side at the Nyayo National Stadium but he seems not to have recovered fully for the return leg.

“It’s a big blow to us, he is the most experienced keeper but then again, that opens the door for the younger goalkeepers to showcase what they are made off,” Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson was quoted by the clubs website.

He will now have to pick between Joel Bataro and David Juma to man the posts at the Stade de Rades.

The first batch of the team left early Thursday via Doha with the second group comprising Ugandan and Harambee stars players who were released for international duty expected to leave on Friday.

Geoffrey Kizito, Dan Sserunkuma and Goffrey Walusimbi were in Zambia where the Cranes lost 2-1 while Harambee stars were expected back home after their aborted friendly against Sudan.

Defenders David Owino and Musa Mohammed alongside midfielder Antony Akumu were part of the Stars squad in Khartoum.
