Haria sparkles at Oshwal Badminton championship

Hetvi Haria won two titles during the inaugural Oshwal Junior Badminton Championships held last weekend at the Oshwal Academy.

Haria lifted both the girls’ under-15 and 19 year categories after an outstanding display of endurance, speed and tact.

On her way to the two titles, Haria won all her matches to finish ahead of Shubhangi Majumder and Khushboo in the gilrs' under-15. In the under-19 category, Haria finished top ahead of  Shah Deepali Kotecha and Alice Mansana who were second and third respectively.

Khushi Brahmbatt settled for bronze behind Jia Hiranandani and Ayushi Nagda in the girls' singles under seven years category.

The darling of the crowd was eight year-old, Ugandan Tracy Naluwooza won bagged double in the girls' under nine and under-12 year categories after overpowering relatively older opponents.

She defied all odds to beat 11-year old Diya Dodhia 15-4, 15-12 to take home the under-12 title, a result that came a few minutes after she knocked out Vaishnavi Vyas 15-5, 15-8 in the quarters and Patel Dhruvi 15-8, 15-6 in the semi final.

On her way to the clinching the under-9 title, Uganda’s under-10 top seed had to beat Khushi Wadhwa in the semi finals and thereafter win 15-3 15-4 against the Ugandan, seeded first in Under 10 category.

Confirmed supremacy

Naluwooza confirmed her supremacy in the girls' under-nine category where she had earlier beaten Khushi Wadhwa in the semi final by beating Kenyan, Prisha Chheda (15-3 15-4) in the final.

“I want to give much exposure so that she can make Uganda’s under 15s team by the time she is 11 years. She is the best under-10 player. It was worthy traveling with her to Kenya,” explained coach William Kabindi.

In the doubles category, Dhruvi/Dodhia won the under-12 then Juhi Shah /Chedda and Prapti Naker/ Aadhya Patel finished second and third.

The top players in tthe under-15 category were Majumder/ Khushboo, Haria/ Mishli and Yishika Wadhwa/ Shana Patel.

Majumder/ Khushboo again won the under-19 category ahead of Haria/Kotecha and Mansana/ Benedett Kakenyi.

In the boys singles, under-7,  first three positions were taken by Raghav Gupta Hussein Noorbhai and Amish Patel. Top players in the under nine years category were Shiv Dhavala, Neer Shah and Aditya respectively.

Meer Solanki finished top of the pack in the under-12 years category followed by Vishwa Vetrivel and Bhavya Shah.

Harsh Patel led in the under-19 years category where John Wanyoike and Sammy Sikoyo finished second and third.
