Nairobi county volleyball and football champions successfully defended their titles as the 2015 Nairobi County Term 2B Games ended at Lenana School on Sunday.

In volleyball, Hospital Hill and Soweto Academy retained their titles while Upper Hill and Olympic successfully defended their football honors.

Defending boys volleyball champions Hospital Hill beat Eutychus 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) in what was a repeat of last year’s finals where Hospital Hill won with the same margin at Starehe Boys Centre.

Hospital Hill dominated the entire match as Eutychus once again failed to get a formula to stop the champions. They took an 8-3 and 16-9 lead at the first and second TTO before going on to win the first set 25-17.

The script was slightly different in the second set as Eutychus took an 8-7 lead at first TTO only to fall at 16-11 at the second TTO before losing the set 25-17. The third set was no different for Hospital Hill side that consists of players from different KVF league clubs as they scored freely before winning the match.

In another repeat of last year’s final, Soweto Academy beat Buruburu Girls to retain the girls’ title. Soweto ensured that the girls volleyball title will be going back to Kayole by beating a plucky  Buruburu side 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-9).

Odhiambo brace

In football action Upper Hill had to come from behind before beating Olympic Mixed 5-2 thanks to a brace from Kennedy Odhiambo. Upper Hill took the lead in the 8th minute through Ovella Ochieng’s ferocious shot that left goalkeeper Kevin Mwagona helpless between the posts.

Olympic leveled the scores five minutes later through Teddy Osok and later went ahead in the 33rd minute through a header by Ali Athman to take a 2-1 half time lead. Odhiambo got his name on the score sheet in the 48th minute slotting in a pass from James Odemba to level the scores 2-2.

Odhiambo put his side back in front with his second goal three minutes later. Hemed Said who was brought in at the start of the second half scored Upper Hill’s fourth goal in the 63rd minute before Douglas Nyabuto made it 5-2 five minutes to the end of the match.

In the girls’ final Olympic beat Maina Wanjigi 5-0. Olympic showed their intention to represent the county once again at the Metropolitan Games scoring four goals in the first half. Sharon Adhiambo, Corazon Aquino, Amina Fondo and Sheryl Ang’ach give their side a good start with a goal each before Dorcas Kizugu scored the fifth in the second half.

The finalists in the various disciplines including racquet games will represent the county at the regional games to be held in Machakos County next month.
