Hosts Nakuru RFC and KCB, last year's Top Fry Great Rift 10's finalists will face off in the quarter finals when the tournament tournament enters the knock-out phase on Sunday morning.

Nakuru fell to Kenya Harlequin FC in the last match to finish second in Pool A. Enos Otieno, the Nakuru RFC coach rued their missed chances and promised to rectify the mistakes against the bankers who were unbeaten in Pool B.

Strathmore University had an easier passage winning their matches comfortably against nationwide teams after Blak Blad and Mwamba pulled out.

Out of the eight Nationwide teams entered in the division one competition, only Technical University of Kenya (TUK) withstood the challenge to qualify for the main cup quarterfinals.

The students finished second in Pool C after a 22-0 win over Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in their last match. They will play Kabras Sugar.

The qualification was made sweeter after the other contender Kenya College of Accountancy- University lost 0-45 to Strathmore University. TUK player/coach Samson Njoroge told Sports News Arena they are more than ready to face Kabras.

"We play the same rugby, the pitch is the same and we will play with same number of players. There is no reason for us to panic," he remarked. "We will stick to our plan and try to play wide. That will create some room for attacking at the center. In the three matches, we have not been carrying enough at the center which exposed our defense but we will work on that."

Against JKUAT, TUK scored through Evans Mwenda, Anthony Omondi, Mitch Ojoa and Peter Wamoto while Omondi kicked a conversion.

The other three quarterfinals will pit Kenya Cup sides and Top Fry Nakuru will face KCB in a repeat of last year's final.

Nakuru upset by Quins

Nakuru faltered in their last pool match losing 5-7 to Quins who led 7-0 at halftime from a Kevin Angote's converted try. In second half, Nakuru took the game into Quins' territory and they were awarded a scrum in the opponent's 22.

They mauled and were awarded a penalty from an infringement which was quickly taken with Charles Odongo diving over.

Head coach Enos Otieno was not pleased with the display against Quins. "We did not take our chances. We allowed them to recycle and dictate the pace which killed us. In the knock-outs, we must take our chances and play smart."

Strathmore who were merciless in their play has a date with Homeboyz RFC who lost their last pool match 5-8 to Kabras. The final pairing brings together Ngong Road rivals Impala and Quins. In their last pool match, Impala lost 7-17 to KCB.

The bankers led 17-0 at halftime with tries from Vincent Opala, Peter Kilonzo and Griffins Musila while Essau Otieno converted once. Lameck Dunde scored the lone try for Impala and Robin Kiplagat converted.
