Kenya men's Volleyball team will have a chance to test their readiess for the African rounds of world qualifiers a day before the tournament begins with a build up match against Rwanda at the Kasarani Gymnasium.

Both teams will be seeking their first ever qualification for the global championships slated for World Poland.

Kenya will play Egypt, Cape Verde, Botswana and Namibia in the qualifiers. The Rwandese side coached by Kenyan Paul Bitok will face Cameroon, Algeria, Nigeria and Gabon next months.

Rwanda has also lined up friendlies against Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) champions, General Service Unit (GSU) and runners up Kenyan Prisons.

Kenya will miss the services of James Ontere who signed for a new club in Cyprus last week.

The former Kenya Ports Authority player signed a half season deal with Veloi Dinamo Bucuresti and made his in a 3-0 win over Cyprus league leaders, Zalau last weekend.

Before his move to Cyprus, Ontere had played pro-Volley in Japan and Turkey. Captain Ibrahim Oduor has been ruled out with injury. Oduor (Kenya Prisons) twisted his leg in Rwanda during the second round qualifying match against the hosts.

Coach Gideon Chenje is however not worried by his absence adding that there is enough cover in the right attacking position from Philip Maiyo (Turkey), General Service Unit pairs David Kurwa and Solomon Bitok.

Maiyo is expected to join the squad at the end of the week while Japan based Michael Chemos is expected to land on February 2. Italy's John Ndungu was the first pro to have joined the camp when he linked up with the squad on Monday, just moments after he landed from his base in Italy.

Chenje took full control of the team for the first time in a week after Englishman, Grant returned to his native country after a week training with the national team and hopes to name his team on Wednesday with Elisha Aliwa of Ulinzi tipped to captain the team.
