The Kenya under-19 rugby team is one of the countries which has been invited to the fifth  Commonwealth Youth Games to be hosted by Samoa in September.

Last year, Kenya defied all odds to reach the semi-finals when China hosted the games. They finished a commendable fourth and one of the players, Alex Olaba who was a revelation at the junior level was called up for the national seven-a-side team.

The teams were announced by the Commonwealth Games Federation last week on Friday. The other African team invited is South Africa.

Completing the 14-team line up are Australia, Cayman Islands, England, Fiji, Samoa and Sri Lanka.

The women’s teams invited are: Australia, Cook Islands, Canada, Scotland, Samoa and Papua New Guinea. The Kenya Rugby Union must confirm by March 1 if they wish to take part in the games which will be staged from September 5-11.
