Kenya leads All Africa Challenge at Muthaiga

The Kenya ladies golf team has a narrow lead over defending champions, South Africa after the first round of the 12th edition of the All Africa Challenge Trophy being played at Muthaiga Golf Club, Nairobi.

Kenya’s combined aggregate of 145, was made up of Josephine Ainley’s 72 gross, 1-over par to accompany Naomi Wafula’s 73 gross, 2-over for a team score of 3-over par.

The best two scores per round count towards the daily team score in the 54-hole strokeplay format. But the best individual score was South Africa’s Cara Gorlei who shot 1-under (70 gross) for the only under par round of the day.

Her score was combined with Magda Kruger 5-over (76 gross) for a team aggregate of 146, four-over par.

Uganda’s Flavia Namakula was the 9-hole leader on level par and she finished in fourth position 74 gross on her own. Kenya's third player, Christina Engell Andersen is in 6th place on 77 gross.

Tanzania are in third place on 156, 14-over par tied with Zambia, with Uganda two shots adrift in fifth spot.

A biennial continental ladies golf championship, 17 countries are participating this year with 48 players playing. The second round will be played off two tees from 7.20am.
