KPA face Clube Desportivo de Agosto in quarterfinals

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will on Friday play Angolan side Clube Desportivo de Agosto in the quarterfinals of the Fiba-Africa Champions Cup for Women.

The dockers finished fourth in Group A with five points from three losses and a win while de Agosto topped Group B with maximum eight points from four wins. In their last pool game, KPA lost 49-89 to Inter Clube of Angola.

After group games, KPA’s Mercy Wanyama is among the top performers. She ranks second in rebounding with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game.

On paper, Clube Desportivo de Agosto is the favorite.

In the quarter finals, KPA, will be seeking to better Eagle Wings’ bronze medal win in 2013 or better the performance.

Natalie Akinyi and Samba Mjomba who won the continental medal with Eagle Wings are part of the KPA team in Maputo.

In other quarterfinal ties, Inter Clube will play Clube de Desportos of Mozambique, Ferroviário de Maputo up against Algeria’s Groupement Sportif des Pétroliers as FAP Basketball tackles First Bank.

United States International University- Africa (USIU-A) will play Togo’s Etoile Filante in the 9/10th positions ranking game. Both teams finished bottom of their groups without a win. USIU-A lost 33-77 to Nigeria’s First Bank.
