Nairobi men, Kasipul win sitting volleyball tourney

Nairobi men's team beat Kasipul Kabondo 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-10)as the National sitting volleyball final at the Nyayo national gymnasium.

Kasipul women's team however returned the favor when they beat Nairobi by straight sets 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 2510) in the finals.

The two teams were full of brilliances careful not to make any errors but a more tactical Nairobi side full of national team players like Caleb Odiyo and national team captain Boniface Mureithi took the closely contested first set 25-18.

The second and third sets were not easy for Nyanza representative who will now be hosting the next edition in October as they lost all the consecutive sets (25-10, 25-10).

"This is a great achievement to us, we do not have the best resources compared to Nairobi teams but we showed that we are a force in sitting volleyball.The opponents should expect a tough opposition when we host the next edition, " said George Odhiambo, a Kasipul player.

On their way to the finals, Kasipul beat Mathira 2-0( 25-15, 25-30 while Nairobi saw off Kisumu with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-12) sets in the women's category.

In the men's group, Nairobi beat Kisumu 2-0 (2514, 25-17) while Kasipul thrashed Mathira 2-0 (25-15, 25-7) Kisumu teams did not have mercies for both Mathira teams whom they beat in for third place playoffs.

Kisumu men saw off their Mathira counterparts 2-0(25-17, 25-18) in the match played in the best of three formats while the Lakeside women's team beat Mathira women (25-825-23) to finish third behind hosts Nairobi.

The two day championship which begun on Thursday saw a total of 14 teams take part, an improvement from the last edition which was staged in Ugunja where only eight teams took part.

Oyugis will host the next edition in August before Mombasa which will host the games later in October.
