Nakuru RFC replaced Strathmore University in the Kenya Cup top four after the weekend results that saw the top three sides register bonus point wins.

Nakuru beat Mwamba RFC 34-6 to take their tally to 51 points and are now fourth on the log.

Impala RFC, KCB and Kenya Harlequin FC all had maximum points from their matches. Impala came back from 10-14 down at halftime to beat Kabras Sugar 31-14.

Fullback George Okowa missed a penalty kick in the fourth minute but was sure in the second attempt ten minutes later for 3-0 to Impala.

Duncan Ekasi then touched down from a maul in the 20th minute with Okowa converting for a 10-0 lead.

Within five minutes, Kabras replied with a converted try by Dan Mwangi from a rolling maul after they won a lineout in Impala’s 22.

Okowa missed a second penalty that could have given Impala a good cushion. Winger Paul Abuto touched down at the stroke of halftime with Martin Juma converting for Kabras.

At the start of second half, the match was stopped momentarily for a rare substitution of referees with touch judge Godwin Karuga replacing Raymond Oruo at the center. Okowa’s boot failed him again as he squandered a penalty kick.

Veteran fly half Nato Simiyu then inked his name on the score sheet with a try off a maul. Impala had won possession from their lineout and set up the maul. Okowa converted as they regained the lead at 17-14.

Robert Aringo then powered his way past three Kabras backline players to score the third try converted by Kevin Ochami for 24-14. Second half substitute Bill Omondi ensured a bonus point for Impala with the last try and Ochami converted.

KCB egde out Strath

Second-placed KCB did not only get all the points against Strathmore University but they revenged the first leg loss.

Fullback Darwin Mukidza scored a double as the bankers beat the students 32-15.

Mukidza opened the scores in the third minute with a try he converted after KCB mauled persistently from a lineout possession.

Three minutes later, the bankers were 14-0 up with eighth man Rocky Aguko scoring and Mukidza converting.

Flyhalf Kenny Andola, a former Strathmore player gained territory for KCB with his precise kick and the bankers had a lineout. Peter Waitere then rose high to pick the ball and set up a maul.

Oliver Mang’eni picked up, but was tackled as he initiated a break. Aguko collected the ball from the ruck to score. Humphrey Owuor slotted in a penalty for Strathmore and moments later Mukidza restored KCB’s margin with a penalty. Scrumhalf Mike Wanjala was alert to touch down as a Strathmore scrum was won against the feed in their own 22.

Mukidza converted for a 25-3 halftime lead. Strathmore began second half with Eric Kioko and Brian Nyikuli coming on to reinforce the forwards and they appeared to have gained some fighting power. In a span of five minutes, they had scored two tires.

Three minutes after resumption, Strathmore had good passes that disoriented the KCB defence with Cyprian Kuto scoring for 25-8. Two minutes later, it was Ginton Adongo’s turn to touch down.

He picked up a loose ball inside his half and sprinted full length to score and Owuor converted for 25-15. At the hour mark, Mukidza got off a Kuto hard tackle and powered towards the try line to complete his brace. Andola kicked the conversion.

Homeboyz RFC climbed to fifth after a 25-3 win over Western Bulls in Kakamega while Quins beat Bungoma Sharks 103-0.

The bottom-of-the-table clash between Thika RFC and Mean Machine had no winner as each team scored a penalty for 3-3 full time score. At the Kenyatta University ground, Blak Blad caused an upset beating Nondescripts RUFC 17-5.
