Police convincingly beat Sikh Union

  • Kenya Police are back at the top of KHU men's Premier League after beating Sikh Union, Nairobi 5-2 at the weekend.

Title favourites Kenya Police dished out an attacking brand of hockey to register a convincing 5-2 win over Nairobi Sikh Union in the Kenya Hockey Union league match at City Park Stadium on Sunday.

Sammy Oungo (6' PC) Brian Saina (16' FG), Samuel Wokila (35' FG), Oliver Echenje (42’FG) and Felix Okoth (48' FG) scored for the policemen while Collins Winjula (57’ FG) and Jaspreet Khalsi (70’ FG) struck for the struggling Forest Road side.

With this win Police regained their lead with 57 points from 22 matches. Police were on the prowl from opening minutes and were awarded a penalty corner in the fourth minute.

In the sixth minute, Oungo coverted a penalty corner. Sharp skipper Saina joined the party 10 minutes later with a field goal- tapping in a cross from Vincent Odindo inside the goal to make it 2-0.

Kenneth Kaunda’s charges appeared confident in the second quarter and scored their third goal seconds to the hooter when Wokila unleashed a strong hit from the right flank inside the striking circle.

Seven minutes into the second half, Police launched an attack with teh skipper, Saina, weaving past three defenders on the edge of striking circle before passing to Echenje who didn’t make any mistake to give his side a decisive 4-0 lead.

Okoth who had earlier missed two clear scoring chances made it 5-0 when he tapped in a cross from the left wing by Victor Wekesa.

Sikh Union got their act together half way through the second half and made some attacks before finally scoring in the 57th minute through Winjula’s field goal.

After the goal, Sikh Union kept looking for an opportunity to score another. Khalsi struck the second goal for his side seconds to the end.

In other match played at the same venue, a 19th minute goal by Isaac Kamau was enough to hand United States International University-Africa a 1-0 win over Kenya University.
