  • Sportsnewsarena.com's Evelyn Watta lines up for the start of the 800m media race at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Journalists covering the world championships took time off to have a feel of the Luzhniki track at the traditional IAAF media race.

After long past five days of writing and covering track and field action, they sort to stretch-out their weary muscles in the 800m run on the blue tartan track.

Former World 100m champion Jamaican Yohan Blake started off the media race as journalists from across the globe raced each other  for the Moscow 2013 world championships "bragging rights".

With an overwhelming 117 journalists looking to better their marks and set new timings in the two-lap race it forced the organisers to hold 13 heats.

Sportsnewsarena.com's Evelyn Watta one of the 10 Kenyan journalists covering the championships that end on Sunday set what could be a Kenyan media record race of 3:26.21.

With no time for training or even warm up she ranked fourth in the first of the two female heats won by British Laura Williamson in 3:00.33.

Sudanese Hiam Ibrahim finishes in 6:02.58. Athlete turned sports scribe French Cécile Bartoli’s 2:25.81 was the fastest of the women’s heat.

Czech Republic Michal Prochazka clinched the 2013 media race title after winning the second heat in 2:00.81, the fastest of the day.

Two Ethiopians Bizuayehu Wagaw(2:44.88) and Abeyu Taybele Demissew(2:56.83) competed in the men’s competion.
