Kenya’s opponents in the Under 20 Women’s World Cup qualifier, Tunisia jet in on Tuesday for this weekends tie.
The Tunisians will play the hosts in the first round of the knock out stages of the qualifiers on Saturday, March 31 at the Nyayo national stadium.
The Kenyan team which has been in camp for the last three weeks had a good run in the qualifiers, losing only once away to Zambia in their first leg before overturning the 1-3 deficit (4-0)to qualify for the knock out stages.
Kenyan coach Florence Adhiambo will name her final squad on Friday. The team will shift base to Nyayo from City Stadium a day before Adhiambo drops seven players from her current squad.
Adhiambo’s headache for now is the nagging knee injury which has kept midfielder Jackline Ogol out of action for two months. Ogol a Mombasa based Spedag Inter-fright midfielder picked the injury during their first leg match against Zambia She-Polopolo.
Football Kenya Federation, FKF Vice chairman, Sammy Shollei is optimistic the girls will write history by qualifying for the world cup.
“We are only two steps away from qualifying for the world cup and am very sure these young girls will do us proud on Saturday. Looking at their previous performance I am upbeat that they will qualify for the world cup”
If Kenya sails past Tunisia in the two rounds, the Starlets will meet the winner between South Africa and Ghana in the last stage of World cup qualification.
Last week, the Prime Minister gave the team Ksh. Ksh.700, 000 with other cooperate bodies led by Coca-cola donating track suits, Procter and Gamble gave the team sanitary towel’s ,AAR Insurance commiting to kit the team while UNICEF will continue take care of the team’s accommodation and meals.
