Wazalendo and USIU-A maintain lead

Wazalendo and United States International University - Africa (USIU-A) men's hockey teams maintained their lead at the top of their various pools after the weekend matches.

USIU-A who were held to a 3-3 draw by Green Sharks in a premier men’s Pool A match on Sunday at the City Park Stadium are now on seven points while Green Sharks have five.

On Sunday, the two clubs traded goals with Isaac Kamau scoring in the 66th minute for USIU-A to tie the scores. Alex Kubasu started the goal hunt for the students in the 33rd minute and Gabriel Teimuge doubled the scores in the 36th minute.

Green Sharks came back strongly in the second half. Chris Muchwanju scored a goal in the 53rd minute and Samuel Mucheke in the 55th to level the scores 2-2.

Muchwanju then shot Green Sharks in the lead in the 59th minute before Kamau scored the equalizer in the 66th minute.

Wazalendo collected the maximum six points from their Mombasa outing. They beat Mombasa Sports Club 3-1 on Saturday and Mvita XI 3-0 on Sunday to lead Pool B with nine points from four matches.

Strathmore University, who edged out KCA University 3-2 on Sunday are second in Pool B.

In this match, Francis Kariuki scored two goals in the 28th and 45th minutes while Constant Wagura added a third in the 42nd minute. Gordon Oduor replied for KCA University in the 15th minute and Edwin Nyongesa scored the second in the 69th minute.

Kenya Police were the biggest winners at the weekend. They beat Nakuru Sikh Union 5-0. Willis Okeyo scored a brace in the 46th and 56th minuted. Samuel Oungo opened the scores in the 15th minute. Other goal scorers were Brian Saina (48th) and Felix Okoth (52nd).

In the women’s league, Strathmore University drubbed Multimedia University 14-1. Gilly Okumu scored four goals while Doreen Hongo had a hattrick. Damaris Namulanda and Laura Gichau scored two goals each with Linda Ayodi , Yvonne Karanja and Lucy Wanjiku adding one goal each.

The consolation goal for Multimedia University was scored by Carol Koech in the 47th minute.
