Nine-year old Zoe Wagner who is unattached to any swimming club was one of the top swimmers at the Nairobi Amateur Swimming Association (NASA) gala at the Aga Khan swimming pool at the weekend.
She collected 38 points to finish top in the girl’s 8-9 years category. The boy’s top swimmer in the same category was Evans Kanya from Strathmore School who had 19 points just four ahead of Dheer Shah from Oshwal Academy.
Ishaq Bashir (Makini) finished third. Two swimmers from Peponi School, Corallina Causa and Makena Nesbitt topped the girl’s 10-11 years category posting 10 and 11 points respectively.
Yahav Huber from the International School of Kenya was dominant in the boy’s 12-13 years category collecting 38 points which helped his team win the overall boy’s title.
Another unattached swimmer, Wanjiku Njoroge finished first in the girl’s 14-15 years category after accumulating 28 points. Her nearest rival, Elsie Okello from Loreto Convent Valley Road had 22 points.
ISK dominated the girl’s 16 years and over by occupying three of the top five positions. Caela Burrell was the winner with 23 points while Louise Peach finished joint second with Makini’s Nira Mwangi. Kelsey Amadeu (ISK) was fourth.
With over 2,800 entries in the two-day competition for beginners, over 35 swimmers attained the AAA grade. In March, some of these swimmers will be travelling to South Africa for a level 1-3 competition.
